The New York Mets have had a great start to the season with a 28-16 record, which is currently the best in MLB, with an important run differential of +65, which is the best in the league. Unfortunately, injuries are beginning to take their toll and affect the team.

The Mets are currently aiming for great things in the National League, but to do so they will need to take the opportunity to strengthen their team near the trade deadline.

They have been without key players such as A.J. Minter, Danny Young, Jesse Winker and Jose Siri. The good news is that Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea are ready to return to action and make their debut

David Stearns makes it clear that they will do whatever it takes to get to the Fall Classic

While it’s unclear what areas the team will look to make improvements in, New York Mets president of baseball operationsDavid Stearns has indicated that the front office will not hesitate to get a deal done.

“In terms of external acquisitions, we’re always monitoring, but sometimes you need to get a little further into the season to find the ideal option, and I don’t see any key points in the team that we may have had last year at this time and that we need to be extremely proactive,” Stearns told the press. “But if there are areas where we think we can improve and there are players available, we’ll certainly make a deal.”

The bullpen may be the Mets’ biggest need, but the return of Maneas and Montas could indirectly help the bullpen.

When these two players return, two pitchers from the Mets’ current rotation will have to be moved in some way. Moving David Peterson to the bullpen would add a left-hander to the group, something they desperately need.

The New Yorkers are in the fight with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League. The Dodgers have shown that they will not hesitate to make big moves if it means improving their chances of winning the World Series. Therefore, the Mets will have to take a similar approach if they want to aspire to something similar.

There should be some interesting center fielders and relievers available at the deadline if Stearns identifies those areas as needs. The key will be finding players who can help the Mets win now, without sacrificing elite prospects.
