It seems that the novel between Pete Alonso and the New York Mets is about to come to an end where both parties will go their separate ways, something that was hinted at by Steve Cohen, owner of the Metropolitans.
The Mets intend to pay $70 million and a three-year contract, but Alonso’s camp opted to decline the offer, especially given what the Mets paid for Juan Soto, making him the highest-paid player in MLB.
The Mets recently improved the offer to a seven-year, $158 million contract, which Alonso also declined through his agent, Scott Boras.
Given this situation, the chances of Pete Alonso staying, even in the Major Leagues, are slim, as his age makes him unlikely to be offered an interesting proposal.

Mets fans do not want Pete Alonso to leave the team, and they made that clear to Steve Cohen at an event at Citi Field.
“I don’t like negotiations. I don’t like what they’ve presented to us,” Cohen said, who is beginning to resign himself to the idea that Pete Alonso will no longer be a Mets player.

“Personally, this has been an exhausting conversation in negotiations… We had the negotiations with Juan Soto, but this is worse.”
At 31 years of age, Alonso has endured a nightmare in recent years, hitting .240 in 2024, with an OPS of .788 and 172 strikeouts, as well as 34 home runs and 88 RBIs, a low average for what he is accustomed to.
