The New York Mets continue to make headlines in the offseason, and it looks like the blue and orange want to translate that into success on the diamond with Francisco Lindor, Jose Siri and the brand new acquisition of Juan Soto.

However, the ninth that is still pending is the possible departure of Pete Alonso, who is not in the plans of the New York team, in a novel that sports agent Scott Boras continues to fight for a better contract for the first baseman.

Pete Alonso turned down a seven-year, $158 million extension offer in 2023, and negotiations this offseason are stalled, two weeks before spring training camps begin.

With this scenario on the horizon, the Mets do not want to waste time and already have in mind the man who will cover the possible loss of Pete Alonso.

Who are Mets fans hating on?

The player chosen by the board headed by Steve Cohen is Mark Canha, who is a left fielder and in 2024 was with Detroit for 93 games, before being traded to the San Francisco Giants.

In that season, Cahna hit .242, while in his nine-year career he has a .249 average. The outfielder had a brief stint with the Mets in 2022 and in 2023 was traded to Milwaukee halfway through the season.

Faced with this news, fans are not at all happy with the possible return of Canha to the Mets, despite the fact that in 2022 he was one of the fans’ favorites.

“It’s disgusting” “For God’s sake no” “we’re going through” are just some of the responses to the possible arrival of Cahna to cover the departure of Pete Alonso, who if he leaves the Mets would not have a clear destination in the Major Leagues.

As the Mets’ roster is currently constructed, their bench this season is expected to include backup catcher Luis Torrens, outfielder/designated hitter Jesse Winker, one of Jose Siri or Tyrone Taylor (whoever is not starting in center field that day) and outfielder Starling Marte.
