This Saturday, September 13, the Allegiant Stadium will witness the clash of fists between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford, the most anticipated fight of the year, which will not be attended by the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, who revealed that the UFC would have banned him to prevent him from getting into the ring.

The UFC banned the president of the World Boxing Council from entering the ring to present the commemorative belt to the winner of the Canelo vs. Crawford fight. This action was denounced by Sulaiman, who responded forcefully to the issue and clarified that he does not plan to sit idly by in the face of this decision.

“I’m going to get in the ring and see what happens” – Mauricio Sulaiman

Sulaiman, who runs one of the four major international boxing organisations, said during an interview with ProLevelBoxing that the veto comes from the UFC, the promoter of the event. The Mexican businessman considered that this decision is due to the fact that Dana White wants to be the figure who presents the belt to the winner:

“It turns out that the promoter is the UFC and they already started to put things like I can’t get in the ring so that Dana White is the one who is up there and he is the show,” he said. “As long as you have two or three security guards there in the corner to get me out, because I’m going to get in the ring. Let’s see what happens,” he warned.

Canelo Alvarez vs. Crawford fight goes to Netflix, not free TV

The Guadalajara-born boxer has always put the Mexican public first, so during his 16-year career, he agreed that his fights should be available to everyone through free-to-air TV. However, on this occasion the circumstances were different, with no chance of change.

The rights were negotiated with Netflix. “It was a mishandling they did there because, obviously, in my contract I always try to have the rights for Mexico so that people can enjoy them for free. It was bad communication between them that in the end took me between the legs, but hopefully it will not happen again,” said the boxer.
