Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has gained widespread recognition in a short span of time. He assumed the role of head coach for the Fighting Irish in 2021 after serving as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Freeman first stepped in as interim head coach for the 2021 Fiesta Bowl following Brian Kelly’s departure to LSU. Shortly after, he was officially named head coach in the offseason, a decision that delighted both the team and fans. Since taking over, Freeman has led Notre Dame to a remarkable 33-9 record, including an impressive 14-1 season this year. Under his leadership, the Fighting Irish have returned to the national championship game for the first time since the 2013 BCS National Championship Game.
Freeman made history as the first Black and Asian American head coach to lead a team to the CFP National Championship in 2025.
