Manny Pacquiao’s return to the ring at the age of 46 is getting closer and closer, and although many fans and experts in the field are against the Filipino’s decision, there are some others who support the former multiple world champion.

One of the greatest legends of boxing, Sugar Ray Leonard, is one of those who is eager to see Pacquiao back in the ring.

The Filipino will face WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in what will be his first fight since losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2021.

The biggest concern about Pacquiao’s return is the age difference between the two fighters, which is 16 years, as Barrios is 30 years old compared to Pac Man’s 46, in addition to the prolonged time away from the sport while serving as a senator in the Philippines.

Sugar Ray Leonard’s support for Pacquiao

Ray Leonard, widely regarded as one of the greatest boxers of all time, told TMZ that none of the concerns matter, because Pacquiao can and will do whatever he wants… and he’s totally in favor of it.

“There’s nothing that really makes people understand why we do what we do,” Sugar said. “But you know what, God bless you, take care of yourself and stay healthy”.

It should be remembered that Ray Leonard retired from boxing and returned to the ring at the age of 40 to face Hector “Macho” Camacho in 1997 after a six-year retirement from boxing.

“I’ve come back more times than anyone. I have the undisputed record,” Ray Leonard joked, and it seems that now Pacquiao wants to follow in his footsteps.
