If there are any sure things in life, it’s that nothing lasts. No matter how universally loved something can be, it will ultimately end up changing eventually. That is now true for NFL RedZone, the beloved bounce-around football show that has become many fans’ main method of viewing the sport.
Every Sunday, viewers sit on their couch for seven straight hours, watching as feeds from every game on the slate combine to make an incredible watching experience. Since it began, the show has had a constant hold on football fans, but the trust has now been broken; albeit only in a small way.
NFL RedZone to feature full length commercials for first time ever
Scott Hanson, the face of NFL RedZone, confirmed on Wednesday that the show is undergoing a major change starting in 2025: full commercials will now be shown throughout, breaking a longstanding tradition.
Hanson has become famous for his work on the show, with his signature catchphrase “seven hours of commercial-free football” taking the football world by storm every Sunday. Now, he will have to change his tune. He has already said the new slogan will be “seven hours of RedZone football start now“.
Fans were rightfully both saddened and annoyed by the news. Firstly, Hanson’s catchphrase won’t have the same impact to start every Sunday slate. Secondly, viewers will now have to sit through commercials instead of having constant eyes on the football games. Everyone loses with this one, except for the ones making money from the commercials.
