Multiple MLB stars have been victims of crime, suffering robberies in their homes, including Julio Rodriguez of the Seattle Mariners and Blake Snell of the Los Angeles Dodgers.
However, the authorities have arrested the alleged culprit, Earl Riley, 21, who faces charges of four residential burglaries and one first-degree burglary. According to court documents, Riley allegedly stole several valuables and even gave many of them to relatives. However, the situation was allegedly complicated by his alleged involvement in a shooting in Pioneer Square.
Riley, together with an as yet unidentified accomplice, allegedly meticulously planned a series of robberies using a Jeep Grand Cherokee to flee the crime scenes. Surveillance footage shows the individuals in question leaving the homes loaded with bags of stolen goods, which together would exceed $244,000.
What happened to Julio Rodriguez?
Julio Rodriguez himself has shared his concern about his safety and that of his family: “It’s hard because I just want to play baseball and have everyone enjoy what I do, but now I have to worry about the safety of my family.”
There are people trying to hurt me and my family, trying to take away the things I’ve worked so hard for all my life so that I can have and be able to provide for my family
Rodriguez was honest with the media, pointing out how difficult it is to leave home to play with the latent concern for his family: “And when you’re out there helping people, you see these guys kind of say, ‘oh, I’m going to take advantage of this’ without a care in the world for you or your life or your loved ones. And I think that was the hardest part for me to take in,” he said
Attempt to rob Edgar Martinez’s house
According to court documents, Edgar Martinez was allegedly the victim of an attempted robbery by the same criminals. However, the attempted robbery was allegedly foiled because the criminals realized that the house was occupied at the time.
Julio Rodriguez suffers a hit by pitch from Randy Arozarena
As if that were not enough, Rodriguez suffered a blow from Randy Arozarena that forced him to leave the game due to a possible injury. A ball at more than 90 miles per hour hit the ankle of Julio Rodriguez, who had to be replaced with visible discomfort in his ankle
However, it was later confirmed that there was no fracture or injury to Rodriguez’s ankle, so he will be available to play against the Arizona Diamondbacks at the start of the series.
