Luka Doncic looks different this summer-and he’s making sure everyone knows it.
The Lakers’ newest star is turning heads after appearing on the cover of Men’s Health with a noticeably leaner, more chiseled frame. The photos immediately went viral, sparking praise across NBA circles and reigniting old conversations about his fitness during his years in Dallas.
That’s where things get interesting. Doncic, who was traded to Los Angeles earlier this year in a massive deal that sent Anthony Davis and other assets to Dallas, hasn’t said much publicly about the split. But on Monday, while attending a Yankees-Rays game in New York, he made his feelings clear without needing many words.
When asked on the YES Network broadcast if he’d be mailing his Men’s Health cover to his former team, Doncic smirked and said, “They probably saw it, so now I don’t have to worry about it.”
Doncic isn’t saying much-but his body (and smile) might be doing the talking
It was subtle, but unmistakable. After years of criticism over his conditioning-and whispers that it factored into the Mavs’ decision to move on-Doncic’s transformation feels like more than just a new training program. It feels like a response.
NBA insider Marc Spears touched on the dynamic Monday on NBA Today, hinting at a tense, possibly toxic environment behind closed doors in Dallas. “There’s probably a lot of stuff they’re not saying,”Spears remarked. “There are stories I’ve heard that haven’t come out yet.”
In his Men’s Health interview, Doncic was more focused on growth than grudges. He said he’s feeling better than ever, both mentally and physically. “I committed to myself this offseason,” he shared. “This is the result.”
And if his former team just so happens to be watching from afar? Well, that’s not his concern anymore.
