The storms have dissipated and the sky looks better than ever for Mexican baseball player Luis Fernando Urias, who was cut by the Seattle Mariners at the end of last year. However, the Sonora native can now boast that he remains a MLB player.

The team that “Wicho” will join is the Oakland Athletics, where he reached an agreement with the Californian team for one year. The move seeks to reinforce the infield once his performance has been at second, third base and shortstop. It is certainly a very versatile game for the needs of manager Mark Kotsay.

At 27 years of age, Luis Urias will have to prove his worth to find stability in MLB and sporting growth that will allow him to sign a more lucrative contract extension with the Oakland Athletics or a trade with another team.

Oakland Athletics are no longer from Oakland

It should be remembered that for the current season, the Athletics franchise will play in the city of Sacramento. They will remain in the state of California after the board decided to leave the city of Oakland to move to Las Vegas in 2028.

Luis Urias’ stroke of luck and his arrival in Oakland (Sacramento)

With the injury to right-handed pitcher Luis Medina, Mark Kotsay found room for him to sign for a year and his performance is generating good dividends this season as well as in Oakland’s transition to Las Vegas

The Mexican infielder has seven seasons in Major League Baseball, where he has played for the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Milwaukee Brewers (2020-23), Boston Red Sox (2023) and Seattle Mariners (2024). In his career, he has a batting average of .232.

His best performance in the Major Leagues was in 2021 with the Milwaukee Brewers, when he played in 150 games, hit 23 home runs, drove in 75 runs and batted .249

Now, it only remains to wait for the preseason to see how Luis Urias adapts to the team and what impact he will have in the 2025 season with the Oakland (Sacramento) Athletics
