Recently, the sanctions for Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets in the Leagues Cup were published as a result of their behavior at the end of the final match where the Seattle Sounders were crowned champions.

Luis Suarez was banned for six matches for spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders coaching staff, while the Spanish midfielder received a two-match ban.

However, MLS has now also spoken out on the matter, revealing another additional punishment from the North American league and independent of the Leagues Cup punishment.

Sanctions for Luis Suarez in MLS

The MLS has announced disciplinary measures against the Uruguayan striker for spitting at Steven Lenhart, a member of the Seattle Sounders staff

  • Luis Suarez received a three-match suspension in MLS.
  • The punishment for Steven Lenhart was more severe as his MLS credential was revoked for the remainder of 2025.
  • Sergio Busquets did not suffer any suspension other than the punishment he received for the Leagues Cup

How does Luis Suarez’s suspension affect Inter Miami?

This sanction comes at a very bad time for Inter Miami, who are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, behind Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Charlotte, Nashville and Orlando City.

Not being able to count on their star striker could seriously affect the Herons’ hopes of being crowned this season.

‘El Pistolero’ would miss the matches against Charlotte, Seattle Sounders and DC United. Probably one of the elements for MLS to have made this decision is to avoid the confrontation of Luis Suarez against Seattle on September 16.

Based on this information, Luis Suarez could return to MLS action for the match against New York City on September 24, once he has served his three-match suspension

Inter Miami’s upcoming matches

  • Charlotte vs Inter Miami September 13
  • Inter Miami vs Seattle Sounders September 16
  • Inter Miami vs DC United 20 September
  • New York City vs Inter Miami September 24
