The big news in the football world in recent days has undoubtedly been Lionel Messi’s renewal with Inter Miami until 2028. The Argentine footballer is going through a great moment on a personal and professional level, so he chose to continue playing in MLS and most importantly, to continue being a professional footballer, stretching retirement for a couple more years.
Inter Miami fans are celebrating this decision, as since the arrival of the Argentine, the team has been on the radar of the whole world and, in addition, figures such as Luis Suarez or Rodrigo de Paul have arrived, who are friends of the No.10 and joined to be part of the ambitious sporting project.
Lionel Messi explains why he renewed with Inter Miami
After his renewal until 2028, Messi broke his silence, as he had only shared videos and photos on social networks, but had yet to say in his own voice the reasons why he wanted to stay more years living and playing in Miami.
In conversation with NBC Nightly News (via GOAL), Lionel Messi commented that he feels very good where he is. “Honestly, I felt very good during the year. I’m happy living in Miami, as is my family, and honestly, the decision was easy”.
“I’ve always said that I will base my decision on how I feel day to day and how I feel physically and mentally to continue playing and continue to be part of this club,” added the World Cup winner.
Lionel Messi extends his football legacy
With the renewal until 2028, Messi confirmed that he will play football until at least 41 years of age, thus proving that he is still as relevant as ever and that despite his age, he wants to continue achieving important things on a personal and collective level.
While Messi has his eyes set on Inter Miami, he is also very focused on what he can achieve with the Argentina national team, as next year he will play another World Cup and, as defending champion, he will seek to keep the trophy again and continue to enlarge his record.
Inter Miami recently beat Nashville 3-1 in the first round of the MLS playoffs, where Messi celebrated his renewal with a brace.
