LeBron James is no stranger to controversy, but his latest appearance in Monaco has reignited a high-profile celebrity feud. Over the weekend, the NBA superstar and his wife Savannah were spotted dancing and singing along to Kendrick Lamar’s scathing diss track “Not Like Us,” a song aimed directly at Canadian rapper Drake.
The moment, captured during the E1 boat race festivities, quickly circulated online and divided fans-especially those loyal to Drake.
LeBron’s public support of Kendrick Lamar isn’t new. Since Lamar released the diss track in May 2024, LeBron has been seen several times enjoying the hit at various events, including Lamar’s “Pop Out” concert in Los Angeles. His visible alignment with Kendrick has not gone unnoticed-and certainly not unchallenged-by Drake.
Drake, once a close friend of LeBron, has fired back in subtle yet targeted ways. During a performance of his 2018 track “Nonstop,” Drake altered the lyric “How I go from 6 to 23 like I’m LeBron?” to “but not LeBron, man,” signaling a clear rift. In other tracks, Drake hints at betrayal, suggesting LeBron turned his back on an 18-year friendship.
A friendship unraveled
Fans of Drake have not held back, labeling LeBron “fake” and calling out his apparent betrayal. “He was closer with Drake than any other rapper-now he’s dancing to his diss track? That’s lame,” one user commented on X (formerly Twitter).
Others referenced how Drake had been there for LeBron’s family during difficult times, including when LeBron’s son Bronny suffered cardiac arrest in 2023.
The feud escalated further when DJ Akademiks, a known Drake ally, claimed on a livestream that LeBron had previously cheated on Savannah during trips to Canada-allegedly with Drake’s assistance. However, Akademiks later walked back the comments, admitting he had exaggerated and lacked proof.
Despite the controversy, LeBron seems unfazed. He and Savannah appeared joyful and carefree during the Monaco event, even as criticism swirled online. Some fans praised them for showing unity, while others felt it was a deliberate provocation.
With social media ablaze and their longtime friendship in tatters, a reconciliation between LeBron and Drake seems increasingly unlikely. What was once a strong bond between two icons now plays out in the public arena, fueled by lyrics, livestreams, and viral moments.
As the Kendrick vs. Drake saga continues, LeBron’s place in the story appears more deliberate than accidental-and fans are choosing sides accordingly.
