The Los Angeles Lakers’ playoff run couldn’t have gotten off to a rougher-or more meme-worthy-start. While the scoreboard showed a humbling 117-95 loss to the underdog Minnesota Timberwolves, it was a knees-on-the-court moment from LeBron James that stole the postgame spotlight… and Gilbert Arenas ran with it.

In a savage social media post following Game 1, former NBA star Gilbert Arenas mocked LeBron with a viral image of the King on one knee pleading with referee Marc Davis.

Arenas quipped, “The Refs Got us on 1 knee begging for calls! Don’t Worry, Lakers in 5! LeBron is about to have 35-40 next game, on my momma.” Then he doubled down in a clip, hilariously roasting the four-time champion.

Arenas had no mercy on James

“C’mon, Marc Davis. Look at LeBron James right there,”Arenas said. “The last time LeBron was on his knees was when he proposed to his wife. Now he’s out here proposing to you.” According to Gil, the Lakers’ leader wasn’t just asking for calls-he was serenading the refs.

He didn’t stop there: “We shouldn’t have to do this in the playoffs, in the building of the Lakers, of the great Kobe. You’ve got him on your back [referring to #8 on Davis’ uniform]. Stamp it.” Whether sarcastically calling for more whistles or mocking the team’s desperation, Arenas had social media in stitches.

Game 1 wasn’t just a loss-it was a blow to the Lakers’ pride. Luka Doncic opened with a hot 16-point first quarter, but the team failed to maintain any rhythm, despite being heavy favorites.

Did the referees favor the Lakers?

Some fans argued that the refs were already being generous to L.A., pointing out the free throw count: Lakers went 14-of-16, while the Wolves hit just 8-of-10.

Still, that didn’t stop accounts like BricksCenter from clowning the league by photoshopping refs in Lakers hats, suggesting the favoritism was that blatant-even in defeat.

Game 2 tips off Tuesday night at Crypto.com Arena, and the pressure’s on. One thing’s for sure: whether it’s buckets or proposals, all eyes will be on LeBron.
