The Los Angeles Lakers, perhaps to the surprise of some, are in the midst of a solid regular season. Sitting in 5th place in the Western Conference with a 26-18 record, the team looks likely to at least make it to the Play-In Tournament for a third straight season. But given the franchise’s reputation, that’s not enough.

Trophies are what’s important to the Lakers and their fans. And it’s true of their players, too. With the NBA Trade Deadline nearing on February 6, fans are eager to see if the front office will make any moves. Despite their positive record, the roster isn’t outstanding. The fans know it, and it sounds like LeBron James and Anthony Davis know it as well.

LeBron James and Anthony Davis are begging the Lakers front office for help

ESPN’s Shams Charania recently published an article detailing trade buzz around the NBA. When talking about the Lakers, Charania reveals that both James and Davis are worried about the direction of the team.

League sources told ESPN that James and Davis are growing concerned about the Lakers’ ability to make significant roster upgrades with their two tradeable first-rounders. James, a four-time champion, and Davis, a one-time champ, have expressed that they want the franchise to make moves to contend for a championship.

It’s not a surprise that James is pushing for the Lakers to be aggressive at the trade deadline. James is 40 years old and doesn’t have a ton of time left in the league. Although he’s won four rings, he wants more.

It’s up to the Lakers to put together an elite cast of supporting players around James. If they can’t do it, once again, James could very well be on the way out in the offseason. The Lakers have only been to one NBA Finals since James arrived in 2018.
