Los Angeles Lakers and Team USA superstar LeBron James shared his thoughts on the WNBA Finals, where the New York Liberty faced the Minnesota Lynx. The power forward added his name to the list of those who criticized the referees’ performance during Game 5 of the Finals.

Direct hit to the refs

Although James does not believe the championship was “stolen” from the Lynx, as their coach Cheryl Reeve suggested, the gold medalist stated that the referees were not allowing the players to dictate the outcome of the game and were interrupting the flow of the match.

He expressed his opinions on his ‘X‘ account, and the post quickly went viral, garnering a flood of responses across the internet.

Many agreed with James‘ point of view, while others used the opportunity to criticize him: “Breanna Stewart wasn’t even touched, lmao, this isn’t a foul,” “And she took seven steps,” “Wasn’t a foul at all, this is rigged,” “It was a travel and a non-foul. Make sure NY stays in the game,” “The players did dictate it. One of them fouled the other. Hope this helps,” “Shut up and dribble,” “You’re just salty the NY Yankees beat your Cleveland Indians,” “If you were that shooter, LeBron, you would’ve acted like your arm had been severed,” and “Nobody asked for your opinion, buddy.”

The eight-time All-Star, Damian Lillard, also tweeted about it, suggesting the WNBA was favoring the New York Liberty: “Refs called this game like they knew the assignment in the 2nd half boy.”

The WNBA Finals concluded with the New York Liberty defeating the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in Game 5, during overtime. The game lived up to expectations, and, like many major games, there were several referee calls that fans found controversial.
