At 40 years old, the thing that’s keeping LeBron James from dissociating from the new, younger generation is his incredible longevity on the basketball court. James is preparing to take part in his 23rd season in the NBA, and he continues to be one of the best players in the league despite being at an age where a majority of players would be retired.
For a while, it seemed like James was simply waiting it out until his son, Bronny James, was ready to make the jump to the NBA. He finally did in 2024, and the father-son duo enjoyed a moderately successful season with the Los Angeles Lakers. It seemed weird to see James with his much-younger son on the court and on the sidelines given their age difference. What’s even more impressive is that he can’t seem to stand Bronny’s generation, or society in general nowadays.
LeBron James says “everything is so fake now” in today’s world
James recently appeared on his wife Savannah James‘ podcast, “Everybody’s Crazy“. He appeared alongside famous streamer Kai Cenat and others, and delivered several memorable quotes. But there was one in particular that had everyone raising an eyebrow, and it showed the dichotomy between James’ generation and the new one.
“Everything is so fake now. Everybody’s so sensitive, so you’re afraid sometimes to hurt people’s feelings. You don’t know how they’re going to take it. I grew up in the 80s and the 90s where you could really say something to somebody and they wouldn’t take it so personal.“
LeBron James explains why his social media posts are taken incorrectly
The topic that was prompted was whether integrity is valued in today’s world. James started out serious, but then got everyone laughing while explaining that his social media posts aren’t meant for anyone in particular.
“Every time you say something, people think you’re talking to them. I’m not f***ing talking about you, or to you, all right? Everybody looks at your (Instagram) story, see you post something, and whatever you post they’re like, ‘Is he talking about me?’ Like what. I can’t just have a thought?“
Clearly, James doesn’t like how sensitive the world has gotten. It makes it all the more impressive that James has been able to relate with much-younger teammates despite that.
