LeBron James is entering his 23rd NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers. But even as the league’s all-time leading scorer, he confessed to feeling envy-not on the basketball court, but of his son Bronny on the golf course.
The father-son duo made history last year by becoming the first active pairing to play in the NBA at the same time for the same franchise, and for Bronny, one of the defining moments was simply sharing the floor with his father.
Whilst the youngster likely won’t go on to match the accomplishments of his father, who is regarded as the bast basketballer of all-time, he does seem to have the edge in a different sports discipline.
At media day, James openly admitted he is jealous of his son Bronny’s effortless swing as he acknowledged his son’s natural talent when it comes to using a different type of ball shot.
LeBron admits jealousy towards Bronny
“It’s unbelievable. I’m so jealous,” James admitted, as the senior Lakers star has long been criticized for his unorthodox golf technique, with comparisons even made to Charles Barkley’s notorious swing.
“I have no idea. … He did not get it from his dad,” LeBron said, of where his son picked up the skill. “Yeah, but you know what?
“His mom [Savannah James], his mom was a great softball player, and you know that swing. I think she might have… Bronny got that swing from his mom. He did not get it from his dad.”
Beyond playful remarks about golf, the four-time champion also addressed more serious matters during media day, including his eventual retirement as at 40 years old, he acknowledged that his career is nearing its end.
“I don’t know when the end is, but I know it’s a lot sooner than later,” LeBron said. “It’ll be a decision between me and my wife and my daughter.”
That means neither Bronny nor Bryce, who is beginning his college career at Arizona, will influence when he calls time on his playing days after 23 years as a professional.
