Pursuing a second Super Bowl title is the driving force behind the Philadelphia Eaglesthis upcoming season, and for that, they’ll need a strong, healthy roster. Last year, the Eagles proved they could compete at the highest level all season long. However, as the preseason begins, the familiar shadow of injuries has already started to loom over the team.
The Eagles could be one of the strongest teams this season, a fact they showcased in their first preseason game. Playing at Lincoln Financial Field and debuting their NFL title in front of their home crowd, they secured an important 34-27 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals.
The team is assembling a competitive roster, one capable of challenging any opponent without hesitation. However, recent news has cast a shadow over their preparations, as star lineman Landon Dickerson suffered a significant injury and is now in doubt for the NFL season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
The injury of Landon Dickerson
Managing injuries has become a challenge for the Eagles during training camp and the start of preseason games, with most setbacks hitting the offensive line and putting extra pressure on that crucial unit.
Now the team faces a new challenge after star lineman Landon Dickerson sustained an injury during Sunday’s practice. Fortunately, it was not as serious as initially feared, but questions remain over Dickerson’s availability for the NFL’s opening week. His absence could be a major setback for the Eagles’ offensive line.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the 26-year-old lineman avoided a major injury. Schultz reported that Dickerson is scheduled to undergo meniscus surgery, with the expectation that he could return early in the 2025 season, potentially even in time for Week 1 on September 4 against the Cowboys.
The part from Adam Scheffter
For now, each update has significantly shifted the outlook on the linebacker’s chances of returning for the season opener. Adam Schefter, one of the NFL’s most prominent and respected journalists, has added yet another update on Landon Dickerson’ status.
“Best-case scenario: Eagles Pro-Bowl guard Landon Dickerson will undergo what’s being described as ‘a minor procedure’ on the meniscus in his right knee in the coming days,” Schefter wrote on his X account. He added, “Dickerson then will be considered week-to-week, with the goal of returning for the Thursday night, Sept. 4 regular-season opener vs. the Cowboys.”
For now, the Eagles continue their preparations for a new season, one in which they have high expectations to meet and the goal of defending last year’s title. The preseason offers a valuable opportunity to test new players and assess the team’s early form ahead of the campaign. Their next challenge comes on Saturday, when they face the Cleveland Browns.
