FIFA announced the eleven nominees for the 2025 Puskas Award, which recognises the best goal scored in men’s football between August 11, 2024 and August 2, 2025.
Among those selected are Lamine Yamal, for his goal against Espanyol on the day Barcelona were crowned LaLiga champions, and Declan Rice, for his spectacular goal against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals.
A diverse list with representatives from several continents
Alongside Yamal and Rice, the list of candidates is completed by Alerrandro, Alessandro Deiola, Pedro de la Vega, Santiago Montiel, Amr Nasser, Carlos Orrantia, Lucas Ribeiro, Rizky Ridho and Kevin Rodrigues
The goals come from different competitions and countries, reflecting FIFA’s intention to recognise the beauty and creativity in football regardless of the league or context in which the goal was scored.
The award that celebrates the magic of goals
The Puskas Award, created in 2009 in honour of legendary Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskas, is part of the The Best awards presented annually by FIFA. The selection criteria value the aesthetics of the goal, the importance of the moment and the sportsmanship of the scorer. Fans will be able to participate in online voting before the FIFA jury determines the ultimate winner.
With Yamal and Rice among the favourites, European football is once again at the centre of the conversation, in an edition that promises to recognise a new jewel in the history of world football.
