Former NBA champion Lamar Odom has completed a 30-day rehabilitation program in Los Angeles following a recent DUI arrest tied to marijuana use. The 46-year-old ex-Lakers star checked into iRely Recovery shortly after the incident and has now officially checked out, marking another chapter in his long and public battle with addiction.

According to reports, Odom entered the treatment program after being arrested for driving under the influence. While he initially stated that “neither alcohol nor narcotics played a role” in the arrest, authorities indicated that his vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana and that Odom admitted to smoking earlier in the day.

His manager, Gina Rodriguez, later explained that the decision to seek help was rooted in deeper concerns. Odom reportedly wanted to address his marijuana use before it escalated into something more dangerous. Those close to him feared that continued cannabis dependency could potentially open the door to harder substances – something Odom has battled in the past.

Odom’s history with substance abuse has been well documented. After surviving a near-fatal overdose in 2015, he has spoken publicly about the importance of recovery and accountability. His latest stay at iRely Recovery appears to reflect a proactive effort to prevent relapse rather than react to a more severe crisis.

The former NBA Sixth Man of the Year chose iRely in part because of a previous connection with its CEO, Vinsent Franke. In 2023, Franke invited Odom to visit the facility after hearing him deliver an emotional speech at the Annual California Addiction Conference. Following his DUI arrest, Odom reportedly reached out directly to Franke for support.

Sources say Franke welcomed him into the program, where Odom completed a structured 30-day treatment plan focused on recovery, wellness, and accountability.

Now out of rehab, Odom is turning his attention toward a new entrepreneurial project centered on mental health and addiction recovery. According to a source close to the former NBA forward, he is working on launching HealLO.co, an AI-powered nationwide search platform designed to connect individuals with wellness providers and treatment centers across the United States.

The initiative reflects Odom’s ongoing commitment to advocacy in the addiction recovery space. Over the past several years, he has frequently shared his personal experiences in hopes of helping others facing similar struggles.

While marijuana addiction is often debated publicly, Odom’s decision underscores his belief that any substance dependency can become dangerous if left unchecked. His recent rehab stay signals a desire to maintain stability and protect the progress he has worked hard to achieve.
