Saturday was a heck of a day for the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. Half a year after pulling off a shocking trade for Luka Doncic, the front office secured their franchise player for the future with a max contract that keeps the All-Star in L.A. through the 2027-2028 season and possibly until 2029.
While no one knows what will happen with LeBron James, reports suggest he will play out the final year of his contract and then jet next offseason. Luka is the new face of the franchise, something that the Dallas Mavericks apparently didn’t want to commit to. One reason for that was Doncic’s weight fluctuations. It brought his motivation into question, despite his on-court performances never really suffering because of it.
Is Luka Doncic back to being “Skinny Luka” for Lakers?
It seems like the Lakers won’t have to worry about that, though. Lakers fans couldn’t help but notice that Doncic looks like “Skinny Luka” once again, as he appeared much thinner than usual during his contract signing event.
This isn’t the first time this offseason that Doncic’s weight loss has made the rounds. Over the past two or so weeks, videos of Doncic have surfaced where he looks more svelte than usual. Some Lakers fans aren’t getting their hopes too high, as Doncic has slimmed down in the past only to gain back the weight.
But with the franchise’s hopes and future on his shoulders, this could be the start of “Skinny Luka” being here to stay. It would come at the perfect time, as Doncic is entering his prime at 26 years old.
