One of the Knicks‘ most reliable players ran into some trouble off the court back in September and it didn’t happen anywhere near Madison Square Garden.
According to recent reports, Josh Hart had a case containing luxury watches and jewelry stolen from his room at The Dominick, a high-end SoHo hotel on Spring Street.
As per New York Post, the incident unfolded on the afternoon of September 5, when Hart stopped by the hotel around 12:30 p.m., left a duffle bag in his room, and headed back out. When he returned roughly an hour later, the case that had been inside the bag was gone.
Inside were three watches and a bracelet, together worth an estimated $185,000, police said.
Hart reported the missing items on September 8, three days after the discovery. As of this week, investigators say no one has been arrested and they aren’t releasing a description of any possible suspect.
The theft occurred in broad daylight, inside one of Manhattan’s more upscale hotels, and within a very narrow window of time.
The Dominick Hotel, a 46-story, 391-unit property where SoHo, TriBeCa, and the West Village meet, carries a reputation for glamour. With floor-to-ceiling city views, well-appointed guest suites and rooftop amenities, it’s considered one of New York’s premier boutique hotels.
Police investigation continues with few details emerging
Hotel break-ins involving high-value jewelry aren’t unheard of in New York, but the quiet timing of this one has raised more questions than police have answered so far.
The NYPD hasn’t commented on whether surveillance footage offered any leads, and the investigation appears to remain wide open.
The organization hasn’t publicly addressed the theft, and Hart has stayed silent about it, focusing instead on the new season. For now, the case sits with detectives, who are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Hart‘s contract shows exactly how much the Knicks value what he brings every night. He’s only halfway through the four-year, $80.9 million extension he signed back in August 2023, a deal that pays him $19,472,240 for the 2025/26 season.
The theft adds a sharp contrast to the stability he’s carved out on the court.
Hart joined the Knicks in 2023 and quickly became a vital piece of the roster. Last season he set the franchise mark for most triple-doubles in a single year, earning praise from coaches and teammates for his versatility.
