Buffalo Bills star Khalil Shakir is going to continue living his life how he likes despite signing a new lucrative deal with the franchise.

It almost feels like being an NFL player comes with the prerequisite that you will drive an expensive and fast car, but Shakir doesn’t buy into that side of things.

He has just signed a new $60 million deal with the Bills, but he is going to continue driving his modest Subaru around rather than pay for a flashier car.

The trusty Subaru

The car is from 2021 and whilst he has admitted that he might get a new car, that doesn’t mean he is getting rid of the trusty Subaru.

“I drive a Subaru,” Shakir admitted at his presser on Monday. “The guys always make fun of me for what I drive. Curtis [Samuel] was like ‘Congrats man, now you can get yourself another car.'”

He went on to share more details about his attitude towards money which differs from many of his peers.

“I don’t really splurge much,” Shakir said. “That’s not really what I like to do. I probably will get a new car, but it’s not going to be anything crazy. … Maybe just drive something else in here just so Curtis sees and he doesn’t make any more jokes.

“We’ll see. I feel some sort of way toward it. It’s got the tinted windows, just a normal white Subaru with tinted windows. I think it looks pretty crazy, but I love it.”

Shakir, who was drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, has steadily developed into a reliable playmaker for the Bills. His 2024 season was a breakout campaign, leading the team with 821 receiving yards and four touchdowns from 76 receptions on 100 targets.

His contributions were even more critical in the postseason, where he recorded 18 catches for 174 yards, helping Buffalo advance to the AFC Championship Game.

With this extension, the Bills‘ front office has made it clear that they see Shakir as an integral piece of the franchise moving forward.
