There’s no doubt that Kevin Stefanski, since arriving at the Cleveland Browns, positively transformed a franchise that was a disaster. However, after leading them to NFL competitiveness, last season and so far this one, he has practically collapsed, and the prestige he had gained has almost entirely vanished.
After last season, in which the Browns finished with a 3-14 record, and beyond their two playoff appearances in 2020 and 2023, it was known that this year would very likely be Stefanski’s last-especially since next year they have two first-round draft picks, and it is highly probable that owner Jimmy Haslam would want to start with a new regime.
The issue is Stefanski’s lost prestige. During the preseason, it was said that if he were fired, another team would be interested in his services the following year. However, after this disastrous season, in which they currently have a 1-5 record, that scenario now looks very unlikely.
Former Cleveland Browns player questions Shedeur Sanders’ leadership
It’s clear that since the Cleveland Browns drafted Shedeur Sanders, there has been a lot of noise within the franchise. The quarterback was taken in the fifth round of the last draft, and at the time, he was listed as the fourth option for the Browns, behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel.
Currently, neither Kenny Pickett nor Joe Flacco are on the team, and yet Kevin Stefanski delayed naming Shedeur Sanders as the team’s QB2-a decision questioned by Joe Haden, former Browns player:
“You have your top leadership playing with Shedeur. Why are you not saying he’s gonna be the backup immediately? That’s lack of leadership. That’s making questions, that’s making things that don’t need to be talked about.” – said the former defensive player on Honor the Land on BigPlay.
The Cleveland Browns have a 1-5 record after six weeks, and their only win came due to mistakes by the Green Bay Packers. The Browns are thus headed toward a high pick in the next draft, where a new regime will begin. Both Andrew Berry as general manager and Kevin Stefanski as head coach have their days numbered.
