The quarterback situation with the Cleveland Browns has turned into a real spectacle, especially at the quarterback position. Although the depth chart lists Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback – which comes as no surprise – he’s the only one with experience in Kevin Stefanski’s system, thanks to his performance in 2023.

That season, Joe Flacco played the final five games, won 4 out of 5, and threw 13 touchdown passes, leading the Browns to an 11-6 record and a playoff berth. Last season, Flacco was with the Indianapolis Colts, but now he’s back with the Browns, and everything indicates that at least for Week 1, he’ll be the team’s starter.

The other quarterbacks include veteran Kenny Pickett and rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders. The team also recently signed Tyler Huntley after Gabriel and Pickett both suffered hamstring injuries.

Kevin Stefanski dodged a tough question about Shedeur Sanders

It’s been reported that practically all of the Browns’ quarterbacks have had a chance to train with the first team – even rookie Dillon Gabriel. The only one who hasn’t had that opportunity is Shedeur Sanders, who has been limited in practice, and the situation is starting to become frustrating for him.

With Pickett and Gabriel injured, one would think Shedeur Sanders would get his shot, but when head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about the situation, he simply dodged the question and gave a generic response.

“You’ll see how we handle practice. We just had a really good walkthrough and I expect all the players to handle practice well, too,” Stefanski said when asked about Shedeur Sanders.

So, Shedeur Sanders is living a true nightmare. He likely imagined entering the NFL as the leader of a project, but in the Browns’ published depth chart, he’s the last option – something that’s not new, as that’s how it’s been all throughout training camp in Cleveland. He could ask for a trade, but even that doesn’t guarantee anything.
