There’s no doubt the Cleveland Browns have been making headlines over the past few months-specifically since they decided to select the controversial quarterback from the Colorado Buffaloes, Shedeur Sanders, in the fifth round of the recent NFL Draft. Sanders had been projected as a first-round pick, but that didn’t happen.
Shedeur Sanders seemed more than ready to enter the NFL as a star, especially after throwing 37 touchdown passes in his final college season-not to mention the spotlight that came from being the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders. Perhaps due to all the media noise, NFL teams ultimately chose to close the door on him.
Five quarterbacks were selected in the recent NFL Draft before Shedeur Sanders, some of them surprisingly early-such as Dillon Gabriel, who was also drafted by the Browns, but in the third round, two rounds earlier than Shedeur.

The starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns will be one of the experienced QBs-either Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett. Flacco currently has the edge, as he already knows Kevin Stefanski’s system. Let’s not forget he played for the Browns at the end of the 2023 season, leading them to the playoffs with 13 touchdowns and 4 wins in their last 5 games.
Among the rookies, Dillon Gabriel has a clear lead, even though Browns insiders have revealed that Shedeur Sanders has done a good job. Browns analyst Daryl Ruiter believes they’re preparing Gabriel to step in at any moment.
