Throughout his extensive NBA career, former Philadelphia 76ers player Danny Green has had the opportunity to face and share the court with some of the biggest legends in basketball. Based on his experiences and what he has observed over more than a decade in the league, Green has no doubt that Kevin Durant is one of the most exceptional players he has ever seen.
Despite the popularity of other stars like two-time MVP Nikola Jokic and the greatest shooter of all time, Stephen Curry, Green firmly defends his position that Durant is above both. In a recent appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Run It Back” program, Green stated with conviction: “I have him over a lot of guys that probably most people don’t have him over. I have him over Steph. We’ll never see a better scorer than him at seven feet.”
What makes Durant unstoppable?
Green highlights a key factor that sets Durant apart from the rest: his size combined with his scoring ability. While today there are players with similar physical attributes and skills, such as Chet Holmgren or Victor Wembanyama, Green believes Durant remains the standard for what can be achieved at that height. “Chet, Wemby, very talented and skilled, but they’re not Kevin Durant,” the former player emphasized, noting that Durant’s versatility is something that had never been seen at such a tall stature.
Throughout his career, Durant has maintained an impressive level of consistency, averaging 27 points, seven rebounds, and five assists during the regular season, with an even better performance in the playoffs, where he averages 29 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. Green pointed out that if Durant were to retire today, his legacy would be secure. “This guy was amazing, and for him to do it for 16-17 years and still shooting like 50/40/90, he’s one of the best to ever do it,” Green added, highlighting not only his longevity but also his efficiency.
Although his career is full of impressive accomplishments, Durant has faced criticism for his decisions off the court, especially for joining the Golden State Warriors in 2016, which sparked ongoing debate about his championships. However, these criticisms do not overshadow his remarkable résumé: two NBA titles, Finals MVP in both occasions, a regular-season MVP in 2014, 15 All-Star selections, and four scoring titles. Durant was also included in the NBA’s Top 75 players list, a recognition that cements his place among the greatest.
