The Kansas City Chiefs looked unstoppable in their 31-0 dismantling of the Las Vegas Raiders, but head coach Andy Reid made it clear that the win didn’t come without consequences.
With a Monday night matchup against Washington on the horizon, the focus at Arrowhead has shifted from celebration to recovery.
During his midweek press briefing, Reid addressed the status of Kareem Hunt, Trey Smith, and Josh Simmons. His tone balanced reassurance with the kind of realism that comes from decades on an NFL sideline.
“As far as the injuries go, the guys that won’t go today are Kareem Hunt who has a bone bruise on his knee,” Reid told reporters.
Hunt’s latest setback could leave a noticeable gap in Kansas City’s backfield rotation. The veteran running back has found the end zone three times this season but has yet to hit his stride in consistent yardage production.
He’s averaging 29.3 rushing yards per game on 3.9 yards per carry, numbers that reflect not only his health struggles but also the team’s broader run-blocking challenges. Kansas City currently ranks 24th in run-block win rate, and Reid’s staff is working to find ways to generate more efficiency on the ground.
If Hunt is unavailable, the offensive workload will likely fall to Isiah Pacheco, whose aggressive style has drawn praise from coaches, and Brashard Smith, who just recorded a career-best 19 touches in the win over Las Vegas.
Trey Smith’s status uncertain after back spasms
Reid also shared an update on Trey Smith, the anchor of Kansas City’s interior line, who left the Raiders game early due to back spasms.
“And then Trey, he’s got low back spasms, so we’ll see if that doesn’t, it’s getting better, we’ll just see how it goes,” Reid said.
Smith’s absence forced backup Mike Caliendo into action, and while the line held up, the Chiefs would prefer not to test their depth long-term. The 26-year-old guard has been quietly dominant this season, earning a 71.5 overall grade from Pro Football Focus, ranking him among the top guards in the NFL.
Rookie tackle Josh Simmons remains away from team
The third name on Reid’s update sheet was rookie tackle Josh Simmons, who remains away for personal reasons.
“And then Josh, my update for you, Josh will just be… there’s communication, I’m going to get into all of it,” Reid said, choosing his words carefully but emphasizing that the team remains in contact with the young lineman.
In Simmons’ stead, Jaylon Moore has been called upon to fill the void, and his performance has drawn quiet confidence from the coaching staff.
