The uncertainty surrounding Kansas City Chiefs rookie Josh Simmons continues to grow after team owner Clark Hunt declined to explain his ongoing absence, mirroring head coach Andy Reid‘s refusal to provide details.

Simmons has been missing for more than a week, first absent from the Chiefs‘ Week 6 win over the Detroit Lions. Initially listed as “questionable” for personal reasons five hours before kickoff, he was later ruled out entirely.

Following that game, Reid simply stated that Simmons “was gone for personal reasons,” offering no further clarification on what had transpired before or since.

The offensive lineman has also missed all team activities in the week since, including Kansas City‘s dominant 31-0 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, raising further questions about his status.

Clark Hunt stays coy

During the NFL owners’ meeting in New York, Hunt was asked by ESPN‘s Kalyn Kahler to comment on the situation.

“I really can’t comment,” Hunt, the Chiefs owner said, offering no additional insight into Simmons‘ condition or the circumstances surrounding his disappearance from the team.

Reid maintained the same stance earlier this week, explaining that the matter was being managed internally by general manager Brett Veach.

“As far as Josh goes, I don’t have any updates for you,” Reid said. “(Brett) Veach is handling everything there and so just move on with that. Alright?”

Reports suggest Patrick Mahomes later inquired about Simmons‘ whereabouts, only to be told by coaches that they “didn’t know” where the rookie lineman was, further adding to the confusion.

The team has provided no official statement clarifying Simmons‘ situation, with neither Reid nor Hunt offering updates, leaving fans and analysts alike speculating about the reason for his extended absence.

When pressed again by reporters, Mahomes was respectful but careful not to reveal any private details about his teammate. So as speculation continues, the Chiefs organization has chosen to handle the situation privately.

Who do Kansas City play next? Date and time for next Chiefs game?

The Kansas City Chiefs will face the Washington Commanders in Week 8 at Arrowhead Stadium in this 2025/26 NFL season.

The matchup is scheduled for Sunday at 16:25 ET/13:25 PT and will air nationally on CBS.

This game marks an important test as the Chiefs look to maintain their momentum amid the uncertainty surrounding Simmons‘ absence.

The team are currently third in the AFC West, behind the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers, with the same record as the Chargers and one win behind Denver.

Meanwhile, the Commanders look to bounce back from their tough loss to the Dallas Cowboys, a result that leaves them 3-4 and third in the NFC North, behind the Cowboys and the 5-2 Philadelphia Eagles.
