Julio Cesar Chavez and Oscar de la Hoya taught boxing to thousands of Mexicans in the massive class that took place on Sunday in the Historic Center of Mexico City.

The boxing legends were in front of 42,000 Mexicans of all ages, who painted the capital’s Zocalo square green, white and red.

The ‘Great Mexican Champion’ and ‘Golden Boy’ showed their best moves, and were seen smiling in front of the fans who attended the event organized by the federal government.

De la Hoya thanked the participation of Mexicans in the National Boxing Class and invited them to say: “no to addictions; yes to boxing”.

For his part, Julio Cesar Chavez thanked Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on his Instagram account for “giving importance to boxing and the country.”

In addition to Chavez and De La Hoya, the National Boxing Class was attended by other great representatives of the sport such as Marco Antonio Barrera, Humberto “Chiquita” Gonzalez, Ruben “Puas” Olivares, Rafael Limon, Roberto “Hands of Stone” Duran, Carlos Zarate, Lourdes Yoana Juarez Trejo, Irma Garcia, Jessica Nery Plata Noriega, Jose Luis Bueno, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, David “Rey” Picasso, Marilyn Badillo and Rey Vargas.

The event was also attended by the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman.

Sport for peace and against addictions

The Nacional Boxing Class was part of the activities of the Attention to the Causes axis of Mexico’s National Security Strategy. In addition to being held in the Zocalo of Mexico City, it was also held in the public squares of the other 31 states.

“Mexican youth say: ‘No to violence, no to addictions’. The people of Mexico say: ‘No to racism, no to classism, no to machismo’. The people of Mexico say: ‘Yes to education, yes to sports, yes to peace, yes to love'”, said President Claudia Sheinbaum during the event.
