Buffalo Bills star quarterback Josh Allen is heading into training camp with a renewed focus on performance and personal wellness-crediting his physical conditioning, recovery methods, and support from wife Hailee Steinfeld as key components of his offseason preparation.
Coming off a strong 2024 season, Allen is entering the next NFL campaign with what he describes as the “best shape” he’s ever been in. In a recent interview with GQ, Allen opened up about his daily habits and recovery strategies, revealing that he and Steinfeld regularly use an infrared sauna that also features red light therapy.
“Me and my wife have been doing that almost daily,” Allen said, highlighting how the couple prioritizes shared wellness routines as part of their day-to-day life.
But the infrared sauna isn’t the only tool Allen is using to optimize recovery. His sleep routine is also dialed in, following advice from leading sleep experts. He keeps the bedroom dark, cool, and quiet-sometimes using green noise to promote relaxation.
On average, he logs 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night. For Allen, consistent rest is just as important as training or nutrition.
Allen’s approach to food is simple but disciplined. He avoids dairy and butter to improve digestion and prefers clean meals centered around proteins like chicken, steak, and especially sushi.
Although not strict with calorie counts or fasting trends, he tends to skip breakfast if he’s not hungry and eats only when he feels the need. Even during the season, he brings in a chef twice a week to maintain consistency in his meals and nutrition.
Golf, flexibility, and a championship mindset
Allen’s training schedule is equally balanced. He works out four times a week, alternating between upper- and lower-body routines. Swimming is a major component of his program, used to reduce stress on joints and improve flexibility.
These workouts help Allen remain agile and explosive, while minimizing wear and tear on his body.
He also credits his passion for golf with helping him refine his mechanics as a quarterback. Allen recently competed in the American Century Championship, finishing 34th. He explained that golf’s rotational movements translate well to throwing a football, aiding with timing and fluidity while keeping him mentally sharp.
With training camp just days away, Allen’s routine reflects a mature, thoughtful approach to professional athletics-where peak performance is tied not only to effort, but to recovery, support, and structure. With Steinfeld by his side and a championship mindset in place, Allen is set to lead the Bills with purpose, precision, and balance in 2025.
