You can ask just about any casual NFL fan who the best quarterbacks in the NFL are, and common names will pop up. Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson are staples in those conversations, as is Josh Allen. Given a bit of a step back in statistical prowess from Mahomes, the general consensus had turned in favor of Allen when it came to naming the best overall quarterback in the league, especially after his NFL MVP season in 2024.
But Allen continues to have blips on the radar, turning into single-game performances that have fans questioning if he’s truly as great as everyone says he is. It hasn’t helped that he can’t beat Mahomes in the playoffs, but a stunning loss by the Buffalo Bills against the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football has fans rethinking Allen’s entire appeal. In fact, some have gone as far as claiming that the league is trying to hide Allen’s imperfections.

One fan noticed that Allen’s late-game interception wasn’t shared as a video clip by the official NFL account, even though they post almost every major play throughout games.
There’s also a general feeling among many fans that Allen’s worst performances simply aren’t being highlighted by analysts. Allen has gotten outplayed by Drake Maye and Michael Penix Jr. in consecutive weeks, but the focus this week is on the Bills “failing” Allen with their roster and coaching decisions.
If Allen continues turning the ball over and the Bills continue losing games, the narrative will certainly start to shift. For now, there is a subsection of fans who believe Allen is criticism-proof despite his flaws appearing in nationally televised games.
