It looks as though there just can’t be peace when it comes to the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
The two groups announced a merger over a year ago, but it hasn’t happened yet, and it appears the tension between the two groups is only continuing to grow.
The latest headline is that PGA Tour players want reparations from those who defected to LIV Golf, including Jon Rahm.
Some of the reparations they are demanding are the return of earnings made from LIV Golf, fines to participate in PGA Tour events, or donating money to charity. Another penalty includes forfeiting PGA Tour winnings.
Why some players are upset
It seems some PGA Tour players aren’t pleased with Rahm’s $500 million LIV contract, which he signed last year.
Rahm and his fellow LIV players refuse to accept any sort of punishment for defecting to the tour. Rahm is currently fighting fines from the DP World Tour for violating tournament rules, with his recent $22 million win in the LIV Golf season title adding to the tension.
PGA Tour Players Directors including Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Peter Malnati and Webb Simpson are stepping up when it comes to talks with the PIF.
Talks between the two sides remain tense, with LIV players stating they took a risk when they left the PGA Tour.
As for the PGA Tour, the tour has always focused on North America, but they are now having to deal with the LIV’s push to travel around the world for LIV Golf events.
Another issue between the two parties is that the PGA Tour players weren’t present at recent merger talks due to scheduling issues. Given all the issues between the two sides, it’s no surprise that nothing has been resolved when it comes to the merger.
