There was a lot of talk abou John Harbaugh’s departure from the Baltimore Ravens after 18 years as head coach. In fact, the move surprised many around the NFL and sparked a wave of rumors about a fractured relationship between the veteran coach and Lamar Jackson, his now former quarterback.
One of the reasons cited for Harbaugh’s exit was that he had lost the locker room, though that narrative appears to be something the coach himself firmly rejects.

Following his departure from Baltimore, Harbaugh quickly became one of the most sought-after head coaching candidates across the NFL before ultimately choosing the New York Giants.
It was there that he directly addressed his relationship with Jackson, making it clear that their bond remained strong throughout their time together.
“Phenomenal relationship with Lamar,” Harbaugh said to WFAN. “Everything has been absolutely positive. Ask him, he’ll tell you. We love each other. We tell each other we love each other. He’s one of my favorite human beings. We revolutionized offensive football with Lamar Jackson. I don’t know why that doesn’t get written about more.”
Harbaugh has been the only head coach Jackson has ever had in the NFL, and according to the coach himself, the two ended their tenure in Baltimore on good terms, despite the rumors that followed his departure.
The Ravens will not face the Giants during the 2026 NFL season, but they are scheduled to meet in 2027, provided Harbaugh remains with the New York franchise for more than one year.
