John Daly is the undisputed bad boy of golf. The legendary player is famous not only for his exploits on the course but also for his antics. Two years ago, Daly stood Paige Spiranac up during a charity golf match, and sportscaster Rich Eisen revealed that he nearly suffered the same fate not long ago.
Throughout his career, Daly has been known for doing what he wants, when he wants. In 2023, the PGA Championship winner was scheduled to participate alongside influencer Paige Spiranac in the “Beauty vs. The Beast” charity round at the Lake Geneva Golf Course, but he never showed up.
In Daly’s defense, it’s worth noting that the night before, he had announced he would be unable to participate in the round due to a flare-up of knee pain and sciatica, so Jerry Kelly had to fill in. Although that absence was widely publicized, it’s not the first or only time Daly has made one of his hosts suffer.
When Daly made Rich Eisen sweat
In a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, titled “Bert Kreischer: Why John Daly is a Long Drive Champion…in More Ways Than One,” the show’s host, Rich Eisen, revealed that Daly was about to pull a Spiranac on him.
“I invited him on the show,” Eisen revealed, “and he goes, ‘I’ll absolutely come,'” but then the famous player disappeared from view. “We have a plan. So is John Daly coming? I texted, no answer. No answer. I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t know if he’s coming.'”
When the day of the show arrived, with no news from Daly, Eisen was on the verge of hysteria; however, “At the time he said he was going to show up, where we look, and he’s standing right behind you. On the walkway behind you, just like waving. Like, ‘I’m here.'”
John Daly is larger than life
With three decades on the golf tour, stories and anecdotes about Daly abound. The senior golfer is an important part of the sport’s history, although his health has been playing tricks on him for some time now.
Recently, Daly reflected on his physical condition, saying, “I didn’t think I’d been here for three decades. I’ve only been dead 11 times. I’m like Lazarus. I just keep coming back from the dead.” With his larger-than-life personality, Daly is likely to continue cheating death-and his hosts-for many years to come.
