Jimmy Butler sets his sights on Kung Fu with Jackie Chan helping him polish some moves but fans make a request

A lot of athletes like to explore new skills and step outside their comfort zone-but Jimmy Butler may have raised the bar a little too high. During his recent trip to China, the Golden State Warrior star took on a bold new challenge: learning Kung Fu from none other than the martial arts icon himself, Jackie Chan.

But as fun as it looked, this wasn’t a Hollywood remake of The Karate Kid. Unlike Jaden Smith, Butler didn’t exactly master the art overnight. Despite Chan’s legendary guidance, it quickly became clear that Jimmy’s strength lies more in slam dunks than in spinning kicks.

As clips of Butler’s martial arts attempts surfaced on social media, fans couldn’t help but react. The internet lit up with jokes and memes, many suggesting that even with Jackie Chan in his corner, Jimmy might want to “stick to basketball.” His moves may not have been dojo-approved, but they certainly entertained the crowd online.

Still, Butler didn’t seem to mind. The Kung Fu session was part of a larger promotional tour across Asia for his Li-Ning JB3 sneakers, and it also gave him a breather before what promises to be a high-stakes season with the Golden State Warriors.

With Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and now Butler leading the charge, this Warriors team isn’t planning for the distant future-they’re chasing title number five. Interestingly enough, Curry has also dabbled in other sports during the offseason, but fans are hoping both stars return fully locked in for a make-or-break campaign.

Butler, who was traded to Golden State before the 2025 deadline, is expected to be fully integrated into the lineup this time around. And who knows? Maybe those Kung Fu lessons won’t improve his defense, but they might’ve sharpened his mindset-or at least added a few new celebration moves.
