The 2025 NFL Draft is drawing near, running from April 24 to April 26, and the buzz surrounding Travis Hunter continues to build.
Known for his rare skill set as both a wide receiver and cornerback, the Colorado Buffaloes standout is widely expected to be a top-five pick. However, the burning question remains: Will the NFL embrace him as a two-way player, or will teams force him to choose one position?
Hunter‘s confidence in his own abilities has never wavered, despite the skeptics. His response to recent comments made by NFL star Travis Kelce only further cemented his determination to prove his versatility at the professional level.
“Like he said, I have to prove that I can do it. So that’s my main thing. Imma prove that I’m gonna do it and I can do it. So he’s not telling no lie. I still got to prove it. You know, I just can’t go to the league and they just, ‘Oh, here you go, Trav, you could do all this,’ and I don’t go out and show up how I’m supposed to show up,” Hunter declared.
Could Hunter be New York’s game-changing acquisition?
NFL.com analyst Mike Band has stirred up speculation with a fresh mock draft predicting a daring move by the New York Jets. Band foresees the Jets trading up from the No. 7 pick to No. 5, engaging the Jacksonville Jaguars in a deal involving their first-round pick and a 2025 third-round selection.
Band explained the reasoning behind the potential trade, stating, “The Jets need help opposite Garrett Wilson at receiver and Sauce Gardner at cornerback, making New York an ideal spot for Hunter to showcase his rare two-way talent. It would be fitting for former Jets corner/current head coach Aaron Glenn to select a ball-hawking playmaker with his first pick on the job.”
During the 2024 college season, Hunter put up sensational numbers on both offense and defense. As a wide receiver, he amassed 96 receptions, 1,258 yards, and 15 touchdowns. On defense, he proved just as dangerous, tallying 35 tackles, a forced fumble, four interceptions, and 11 passes defended.
The Jets have been desperately searching for a player with the potential to boost their offense and defense simultaneously. Hunter‘s talent could be the answer to their long-standing struggles. A two-way player of his caliber could completely transform their lineup and give them the flexibility they’ve been seeking.
But the question remains-will New York take the leap and secure the most electrifying player in the draft?
