Next Thursday, September 4, the season will kick off with the Dallas Cowboys visiting the reigning NFL champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, in what will be the opening game and the first divisional matchup of 2025, where Jalen Hurts and company are heavy favorites to get the first win.

And the Eagles will be even bigger favorites because the Dallas Cowboys’ star-and perhaps the best defensive player in the NFL-Micah Parsons remains on strike, not playing or practicing. Time is running out, and it’s becoming more likely that he won’t start the season playing, since no new deal has been reached with the Cowboys.

Micah Parsons wants to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, which would mean surpassing the deal signed by defensive star T.J. Watt with the Pittsburgh Steelers: $123 million over three years, an average of $41 million per season.

Micah Parsons’s mom had an interaction with Jerry Jones

In last Friday’s game, Jerry Jones was able to meet Micah Parsons’s mother, Sherese, in a restricted area of AT&T Stadium. Terrence, Parsons’s brother, posted on X a picture of the two smiling.

This Monday, a video surfaced of the moment between Jerry Jones and Sherese, where the Cowboys’ owner made a joke about her son’s holdout-refusing to practice or play with the team.

“Now, Micah, why aren’t you out there playing,” Jones told Parsons’s mother. “You act like you want some money or something!”

Micah Parsons has recorded 52.5 sacks in his four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, and if he leaves the team, it would be a major blow to the Cowboys’ defense-and especially to the team’s aspirations.
