Javier ‘el Vasco’ Aguirre is finalizing the details regarding the names that will form part of the final list for the 2026 World Cup, and in the meantime Gilberto Mora remains sidelined, putting his presence at the world’s greatest soccer festival in doubt.
Regarding the physical condition of Mora, the Mexican coach offered recent details that confirm what many suspected, there is no clear date for his return.
What’s wrong with Gilberto Mora?
Gilberto Mora suffers from pubalgia, an injury in the pubic area that is usually very deceptive. Because of this condition, the young Mexican player has not played since mid-January with either his club, Xolos de Tijuana, or the Mexican national team.
It is presumed that Gilberto Mora has visited different doctors seeking to have several points of view, also trying to avoid surgery at all costs, however, so far it is not known exactly how long he will be out of circulation.
Mora, together with the medical staff of his team and the Mexican national team, have opted for a conservative treatment based on rest and rehabilitation, but this does not have exact recovery times, unlike other types of injuries, something that complicates sports planning.
An initial assessment in Santa Monica raised the possibility of surgery, although there were no guarantees about the recovery period. Subsequently, specialists consulted in Pittsburgh recommended rest to avoid major risks.
That’s why the club has opted to act with caution, following medical recommendations and those of the representation team headed by Rafaela Pimenta, who is currently leading the monitoring of the case.
Aguirre confirms that Mora is not available
Prior to the friendly against Iceland, Javier Aguirre was blunt in explaining the current situation of the midfielder.
It is a fairly complex injury and they are looking for a second or third medical opinion… at this point he is not available for either Tijuana or us
Aguirre also pointed out that he maintains constant communication with the specialists and acknowledged that not even the coaching staff itself can estimate when he will return to competition.
“His youth and mentality will help him, but as far as pain is concerned, it is impossible to demand more from the body,” added the strategist.
Everything seems to indicate that Gilberto Mora has his place assured in the Mexican national team, so the priority is to have rest to arrive in physical fullness to the tournament, contrary to other players, who with time on top, seek to return to activity to show the Mexican strategist that they are able to represent Mexico in the next World Cup.
