NFL stars and brothers Jason and Travis Kelce are once again bringing their sibling banter into the spotlight, this time over a lighthearted mix-up at a high-profile charity event.
The moment occurred at Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ annual “15 and the Mahomies” fundraising gala in Las Vegas, where guests, teammates, and friends gathered to support children in need through health and wellness initiatives.
Travis forgets he owns Taylor’s guitar
During the evening’s live auction, one of the standout items was a guitar autographed by pop icon Taylor Swift.
Travis, who has been in a relationship with the Grammy-winning artist since summer 2023, found himself mid-bid for the signed instrument before suddenly realizing something important.
“I just realized I have that already,” the Chiefs tight end was heard saying in a video clip from the event, drawing laughs from the crowd as he quietly returned to his seat.
The humorous moment quickly became a topic of discussion on this week’s episode of the New Heights podcast, which Travis co-hosts with his brother, retired Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce.
“There’s this clip of you helping a good cause by running up an auction price for a signed guitar,”Jason teased, prompting a quick clarification from Travis.
“No, I put my paddle up because I wanted it and then I realized, ‘Oh, I already have it. Oh, that was the guitar I have,'” he explained.
Jason, not ready to let his brother off the hook, pressed further.
“You realized it afterwards?” he asked, clearly amused.
Travis responded, “You don’t want to buy the same guitar twice.”
Jason chuckled and admitted, “Well done.”
Despite the bidding blunder, Travis had nothing but praise for Mahomes’ event, calling it “a f-king blast” and commending its growing impact.
“It’s just gotten better and better,” he said.
“[They] keep raising more and more money every single year for the underserved communities in Kansas City.”
Though Swift did not attend this year’s gala, she joined Travis at the 2023 benefit, where the couple surprised attendees with a special last-minute auction addition, four Eras Tour tickets, which ultimately sold for $80,000.
This year, Travis attended the gala solo, but still managed to leave a lasting impression, not just for his generosity, but for a moment of forgetfulness that gave his brother a perfect reason to poke fun.
