The controversy over the result of the fight in which, thanks to a majority draw, Gervonta Davis retained his WBA lightweight title againstLamont Roach Jr. continues. Despite the fact that there are many attacks against Tank for considering that he was benefited by a mistake by referee Steve Willis, unexpectedly a voice emerged to support the champion.
The backing came from another monarch, Jaron Ennis, who owns the IBF welterweight belt and took advantage of an interview with YSM Sports Media to launch into Terence Crawford and the other boxing voices who criticized Tank Davis‘ triumph.
“It was a great fight. He had the advantage of 7-5 against Tank or it could end in a draw,” Ennis told YSM Sports Media, in which he recognized that Lamont did well. “He did a great job, actually. I just don’t think he did enough to get it. I feel like people overlooked what Tank was doing in the first five, six rounds. He was boxing and frustrated him a little bit, but Lamont did a great job.”
Ennis takes aim at Terence Crawford
One of the main characters to attack Gervonta Davis after the result, which could have been different if he had been deducted a point for kneeling in the ninth round, was Terence Crawford, who posted on his X account: “Never seen someone take a knee, and not count it as a knockdown. I must have (forgotten) the rules,” in a clear message to stoke the rivalry between Bud and Tank. However, Ennis believes that these comments may be guided more by a matter of dislike.
“I feel like people just don’t like Tank to the point where any little thing. Just because he didn’t knock him out, they feel like he probably lost and he didn’t or it was a draw… I don’t know, people just talk. At the end of the day, you can’t please everybody,” said Jaron Ennis
