Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is no stranger to making statements on and off the field, but his latest act has sparked controversy with the NFL. After being fined $5,628 for wearing two different colored cleats during Week 15 against the Steelers-a violation of the NFL’s strict uniform policy-Hurts doubled down with a bold response during the Eagles’ next matchup.
As he arrived at FedEx Field for the Eagles’ game against the Commanders, Hurts was seen wearing a two-tone suit, pairing a black shirt with a grey blazer. Many fans and analysts interpreted this as a subtle jab at the NFL’s decision to fine him for his cleat choice.
The fine stemmed from Hurts wearing mismatched Air Jordan 11 cleats that didn’t align with the Eagles’ official team colors. According to the league’s uniform rules, cleats must match the team’s designated palette. Hurts explained the situation, saying, “I was supposed to wear the Columbia 11s that I gifted to the kids at the Wings Initiative after last week’s game, but they never came in.”

Despite the fine, Hurts wore the same mismatched cleats-Kelly green and a lighter green shade-against Washington, seemingly unfazed by the potential for a second penalty, which could reach $16,883.
Hurts’ response to the league
While $5,628 is negligible compared to Hurts’ $51 million annual salary, the quarterback’s actions appear to be less about money and more about challenging a rule that many see as outdated. Fans rallied behind him on social media, celebrating his rebellious stance.
