Jake Paul has a lot to be happy about these days. The 27-year-old former YouTube darling secured his 10th win as a professional boxer by defeating Mike Perry back in July, and he cheered as his preferred presidential candidate Donald Trump won re-election last week as the 47th President of the United States. And at week’s end, he will finally square off against Mike Tyson in boxing’s “fight of the year”.

Paul and Tyson will touch gloves at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday night, an occasion that will mark Tyson’s return to the ring for his first pro fight since 2005. Even with days to go until the bell rings, predictions remain split down the middle; some believe that Tyson’s punching power will prevail, even at 58 years old, while others believe Paul’s youth and tenacity will deliver him a victory over eight two-minute rounds.
Paul is ready for his “moment to shine”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Paul is predicting that he will defeat Tyson on Friday night in front of a huge crowd at the home of the Dallas Cowboys. It will mark the culmination of Paul’s boxing dream, something he has “manifested” as his “moment to shine”.
“Everyone’s doubted me. Everyone’s had something to say,” Paul said. “Nothing was ever given to me; I’ve had to work for it all. I’ve been kicked off YouTube, kicked off platforms, canceled five times, and here I am, throwing the biggest event in entertainment.”
Indeed, Paul believes he will knock out the former heavyweight champion Tyson, whose training videos have gone viral as his first fight in 19 years draws ever closer. The “Problem Child” is not thinking about a split decision; he wants a win, and a convincing one at that.
“When it happens, it’s going to be a little bittersweet because I have love for him, but at the current moment, we’re meant to go to war,” Paul said. “He’s trying to take the food off my plate, and I’m trying to take the food off of his plate-that’s what warriors do.”
With both men expected to rake in around $20 million each for the Netflix-sponsored showdown, the loser should not go broke whether it’s Paul or Tyson. But the fight will be box-office viewing and remind many fans of a certain age about the “old days” as Tyson seeks to recapture his glory — while Paul seeks to announce himself to a wider audience.
