Jaime Munguia has to ‘rebuild’ his career after the surprise knockout he suffered on Saturday against Bruno Surace in Tijuana.

The fight was expected to be an exhibition for Munguia in front of his home crowd at the Estadio Caliente, but the Frenchman countered with a right hand and the referee decreed the technical knockout at 2:36 of the sixth round.

Jaime Munguia would apply rematch clause

Among the first statements of the defeated in the home of the Xolos were to seek revenge against Brunello: “Let’s see what comes. I think so (let’s go for the rematch),” Munguia said when leaving the stadium.

Salvador Rodriguez, a specialist at ESPN, also reported that the Tijuana native’s promoter would go for the clause for the second fight.

“I am told that Zanfer intends to activate the rematch clause for Jaime Munguia vs Bruno Surace 2 in the first half of 2025 after Saturday’s surprise result in Tijuana. Details will be forthcoming in the coming days.”

Difficult year for Jaime Munguia

Jaime Munguia went undefeated into 2024 after 42 fights in his professional career and started the year with a win over John Ryder in January, but suffered his first defeat to Canelo Alvarez in May.

In September, he won again against Erik Bazinyan, but then came the tremendous knockout against Surace (26-0-2), and the first of his career. Now Munguia has a record of 44-2-0.
