The offseason for the Los Angeles Dodgers has many MLB fans furious at what they consider to be an abuse of the system, as they have signed many coveted agents, but with a deferred payment system, which has allowed them to expand their budget and have a roster that made them favorites to win the World Series title
The anger of fans accusing the Dodgers of ruining baseball was heightened by the signing of Tanner Scott, the best reliever left among the available free agents, coupled with the fact that Roki Sasaki, the young Japanese jewel, chose Los Angeles to be the team in which he will make his MLB debut.
In response to criticism from MLB fans, pitcher Jack Flaherty posted on his X account an opposing opinion, which in a way defends the Dodgers, which made many of his followers explode.
“A certain team isn’t ruining baseball… Many other teams are just doing very little,” Flaherty said on X.
Jack Flaherty still looking for a team in free agency
Jack Flaherty is now the most sought-after of the available pitchers who entered free agency, on a list that included Corbin Burnes, Max Fried, Blake Snell and, of course, Japanese phenomenon Roki Sasaki
Despite being the Dodgers starter in Game 1 of the World Series and anchoring a rotation that suffered significant injuries, Flaherty is still without a team. Of the list of starters mentioned, according to The Athletic, only Snell surpasses him in strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The Dodgers did not take him into account, because their rotation already looks scary with Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, Roki Sasaki, Shohei Ohtani and the possible return of Clayton Kershaw, but after his publication, many angry fans believe that he did it because he will return for the 2025 season.
“The Dodgers probably paid you to post this ad and then said they would defer your payment for the next few years,” wrote content creator Jordan Moore, while Flaherty replied, “Sometimes I don’t listen very well, ask my friends.”
About how little other teams do according to Flaherty, another fan wrote: “Bro is trying his hardest to resign himself,” while another told him: “He’s enjoying all that deferred money, of course he’s not going to criticize them” and one more wrote: “Sounds like someone is looking for the Dodgers contracts that are handed out like free samples in a food court.”
