So far, there hasn’t been a more electric moment in the 2026 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament than Otega Oweh hitting a miraculous three-point shot to send Kentucky‘s first round game against Santa Clara to overtime. The Wildcats went on to win the game in overtime, to make it much more sweeter.
If the Kentucky player’s last name rings a bell, it’s because he shares it with Odafe Oweh, the NFL pass-rusher who’s having a heck of a March in his own right. The football defensive end signed a four-year, $96 million deal with the Washington Commanders in free agency a week ago. It’s safe to say that it’s a fantastic time to be an Oweh. That had fans wondering if the two are related.
Otega Oweh is Odafe Oweh’s younger brother
Yes, they are. Otega and Odafe are in fact brothers. There’s a five-year age gap between the two, but they were both born in New Jersey. Otega was born in Union, while Odafe was born in Hackensack. They attended the same high school, Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey.
Their college careers took them on different paths, though. While Otega chose Kentucky due to their blue blood status as a basketball school, Odafe opted to join Penn State during a strong stretch of seasons under head coach James Franklin.
The two brothers seem to have a strong relationship, as evidenced by the football player collaborating on several posts celebrating both of their accomplishments on Instagram.
It’s truly a great time to be a part of the Oweh family. The present is delivering incredible moments, and the future looks bright as well.
