If there is one thing that Lionel Messi would be missing in his successful career, it would undoubtedly be to play and win the Copa Libertadores. The Argentine star has literally achieved everything, but a dream for his fans would be to see him in the most important South American tournament in the world. Although MLS teams do not play in this tournament, Inter Miami are working to make an exception
A few years ago, Mexican teams had the opportunity to play in the Copa Libertadores and although none of them won it, there were several that had great campaigns and proved that there is plenty of quality. Now MLS teams could also join them, as explained in a press conference by Inter Miami owner Jorge Mas.
Inter Miami wants Messi to play in the Copa Libertadores
Jorge Mas did not hide his excitement about the possibility of Inter Miami playing in the Copa Libertadores, expressing that they are in talks to achieve this and thus be able to see Messi play in the continental competition.
“It’s a dream. Obviously I’ve had conversations with Conmebol about participating in the Copa Libertadores. There is precedent for Mexican clubs,” Mas said of the possibility of adding Inter Miami.
If MLS and MX quotas could be added, the competition would be bigger and more attractive
In addition, the Inter Miami owner explained that both MLS and Liga MX deserve these places. “I would like to play in the Copa Libertadores, I say it publicly, I think that the champions of MLS and Liga MX maybe deserve a place.”
Gerard Pique’s proposal to Lionel Messi
While Inter Miami are looking to have Messi playing in the Copa Libertadores, the Argentine is also being courted in the world of the Kings League, where his former teammate, Gerard Pique, left him an open invitation to the event.
After the Kings League World Cup of Nations, Gerard Pique was asked about the possibility of inviting Messi one day and the former Barcelona player was quite clear in his response.
“We will see if one day there is the possibility that he gets involved in the Kings, for me it would be a dream obviously,” explained the 2010 World Cup winner with Spain. “Because we like to have the best and I have always said, he is the best in the history of this sport so having him with us would be incredible.”
