We have been publishing in MARCA since before the summer that Inter Miami and Lionel Messi are negotiating the Argentine star’s next renewal with the MLS club, with whom he will end his contract at the end of 2025.

The renewal is still in progress without haste or pause (today there was a media rush on the matter), but it does not seem that it will arrive even this week. The intentions have been clear for some time, but details are lacking, and the contract must first go through MLS, which must give its approval, as with any player in the league.

Leo’s idea is to stay active in Miami in order to win titles with the club and be in top form for the 2026 World Cup, which would be his sixth World Cup, something unprecedented in the history of football (there are eight players with five, Cristiano among them).

Inter are handling a long-term contract for Leo, if he wants to stay active beyond the age of 40. There is a lot of speculation about the length of the contract, but few know the reality yet.

We explain. The important thing is that both want to stay together, and the essential thing is that Leo will play as long as he feels like it and has the strength to do so. This will be independent of the contract that is signed in years (natural, since MLS, for now, competes like this). It is independent because what Inter offers is a multi-year contract, whether it is two, three, four or five years.

In other words, Messi will play as long as he wants and then occupy other areas of the club (there he will have to compete with Barca), since, and this is key, Leo is already a partner (with shares) of Inter, that is, one more owner (it was signed in his initial contract), so it is a contradiction to talk about specific years, because Leo is already (partially) owner of his own club. It remains to be seen whether this participation will be extended.

In short, we have to wait for the official announcement. We’ll see how long. Patience.
