In a surprising free agency move, veteran All-Star DeWanna Bonner is reportedly leaving the Connecticut Sun to join the Indiana Fever offering another excellent weapon for Caitlin Clark ahead of the 2025 WNBA season.

After spending five seasons with the Sun, the 37-year-old shooting guard/small forward will bring her wealth of experience to the roster at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse, marking a new chapter in her career after 15 campaigns.

Bonner‘s impressive career includes six All-Star selections and two WNBA championships (2009, 2014), along with an All-WNBA First Team appearance in 2015 as well as the All-Rookie team in 2009.

Her leadership and veteran skills will be a valuable addition to a Fever team that already features young stars like Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston as Stephanie White, aims for a strong push towards the title in her first year at the helm.

Bonner‘s decision to join the Fever, as per ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, came as a surprise to many, especially considering the ongoing speculation that she might reunite with the Phoenix Mercury, who she played for from 2009-2019.

It was especially anticipated due to Alyssa Thomas now playing for the Mercury. The pair have been dating since June 2023, making a reunion seeming likely. However, Bonner has chosen to take her talents to Indiana instead.

Who do the Fever play first?

The move also reunites Bonner with White, who left the Sun to return to Clark’s Indiana in December 2024. They previously played together at the Mohegan Sun Arena, located in Uncasville in CT.

The Fever are setting up a promising future, bolstered by their offseason moves, including the re-signing of Kelsey Mitchell to a supermax contract and the addition of Sophie Cunningham through a three-team deal.

This positions Indiana as a formidable contender in the 2025 season and they will open their campaign against Angel Reese’s Chicago Sky on Saturday, May 17. Tip-off is from 13:00 ET/10:00 PT at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
